Not enough penalty practises, sire?

The english were absolutely crap for unable to convert the spot kicks, so please do not blame anyone. Blame it on yourselves that you were overhyped to win the World Cup 2006.

Observes Lampard, Gerard and Jamie expression before they shoot, it's does not appear postives..

the english had their best chances in the first 90 minutes.

it diminished during extra-time.

and vanished during penalty shoot-outs.

i cannot recall england winning on penalty shoot-outs.

Little fish, it a tactical error i would said.

1st, the Media hyped the England team likes they are going to win the cup, so all players felt likes god.

2nd, refusal to drop Beckham and Lampard is another killer punch. It's clearly shown that both Lampard and Gerard cannot play together. Beckham cannot play wing, he can cross but can't outpace defender. As a English Capt, he has no leadership quality.

3rd, failure to bring 5th striker killed any further chance to outscore opponents. And playing Rooney alone is bounded to be fury affair, having the media hailing him to bring the cup home and with his passion. Not getting services from the mid field is going to frustrate him...dun blame Ronald, he playing for his nation, despite Ronald is not my favorite player.

Yeah, it might have been a tactical error, which a number of football writers are saying. Well they shouldn't have gone through to the quarter-finals with the tactical error of playing beckham and rooney in the "wrong" positions. Luck then? yes, there were plenty of tactical errors. starting with sven as the coach, not knowing the strengths of his charge. Finally the English FA will no longer pay 5 million pounds for a Ikea DIY. Flat-packed, for your convenience. =)

All in, I was never impressed with the English side. Terok lah, look at the number of english players who can thrive overseas. Sure, we can say that they are better paid in the EPL. But I think they seriously lack international exposure. And it's the lack of demand for english players as well as the miniscule supply of credible english players.

haha, still think england + penalty shoot-outs = lost cause.

Lil Fish, with all the fanfares, the English cannot stamp their ground in international game, u right. Parts of it, you had already brought it up, lacks of English clubs in the Champion league, so and so. Despite Arsenal was runner-up last year, much of it has to depend on numerous foreign players.

The English league although brought excitment and generating lotsa revenues thru TV broadcasting rights, merchandising and ticket.

It's also killing their youth development as well. Not only that, the salary shoot ways beyond manageability, it deepened their soccer development, because Chelsea for all it's financial mights can pick and buy players as they pleased. Thus siphoning home grown talents, because it take times and effort to turn them into an end product.

Does that sound familar to you? Singapore also have the same issues.

Coming back, the UK FA should be holding highest responsiblity as well. I believed Sven was simply toeing along the FA's directives and playing it up to the mercenary media. So i would said he is the smartest man around, look, he came, he bonk, he play the games, he walked out with millions. Where can you find such employer?

Does'nt that remind you of Singapore again as well? Gary Old of DBS?

I simply do not believed he is a stupid fellow not to play his selection right. In facts the selection that they wanted had left him with little tactical choices.

Playing Lampard, Terry, Gerard, Beckham, Owen & Rooney will guarantee him peaceful night? So who to blame? British media?

Beckham has certainly learnt it well from Sven, being an icon to a greater extends and jersey seller, he knew his days were numbered, so he had to quickly ditch his capt armband before the media roast him again.

See what happen? They said he is brave to step down and let's the new generation run the show. Amazing, yeah right.

Brazil fall under the same issue as the British, largely overhyped and arrogant. Refusal to drop Roberto, Cafu, Kaka, Ronaldo and so on...why? Because these players formed a cartel that guarantee 100% play time even if can't perform.

Who is to lose again? The Fan who spend their hard earned money...

taxi driver gave me an excellent reason why english players can never perform. because they cost too much. their opportunity cost in missing EPL games is tremendous. so they are more careful. same for brazilian players based in europe, who treasure their careers....

That's why coaches must be willing to drop star players and use a combination of fresh players to drive the game.

Because they are more willing to prove their worths. Dutch and German are fine examples.
