Manz. Apple sure turn up the heat on downloading Video content on portable device, with USD1.99 a piece, i have to bow it Steve Jobs for being an excellent visionary and salesmanship. As i always said, the best sale man is some one who sell you the future. In business and management, there are two kinds of people, the administrator and the visionary.
Visionary are charismastic people who is able to see beyond what others could see and sell their visions to others in the process to motivate or just part of the sale selling process. Visionary sometimes are risk takers as well, because many of these visions selling are not proven, just picture someone trying to sell a product or concept whose was not even produced or introduced in the market, will you be convinced to part your $$ without thinking that his word is worthy?
Administrator is what typical Singaporen are trained and herded [sad truely, sorry folks i have to rub it in] Just develop the processes and regulations and follow them thru without adding much value in the decision making process. While regulations are good to protect business in an uncharted ground or at its infancy, authority must be quick to de-regulate to allow free market to freely maneuver and expand beyond it initial capacity. Too much regulations restrict competition and in the end, it's a lose-lose situation for consumers and companies alikes.
Once an iDA friend who held a high position there and was my primary school classmate told me that role of iDA and Government is to protect small business from being eaten up. Manz, i want to laugh at his naivety, despite i respect his adminstration experience, this 1st class honor from Sheffield got it all wrong. Regulation to protect which and what type of companies? GLC? or local brewed companies? Even with regulation, small companies with incapable ability will still be folded and eaten alive if they were unable to compete with protected companies in uneven ground. So therefore, i always said, Administrator are people who follows instruction and not pro-create like Visionaries.
Now tell me, how many top CEOs in the world are'nt MBA? You dun want to be MBA if you are a visionary, do you?
